Jogu-ji Temple was originally Zenpuku-ji Temple, founded by Saint Ryogen, a disciple of Shinran Shonin, in Sagami Province (present-day Sagamihara, Kanagawa Prefecture).
In 1913, Ryokan Kurata relocated it to its current location, renaming it Kurata-san Jogu-ji. The temple celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2013.
Jogu-ji Temple has been supported by the local community in Hiroo, Shibuya-ku, and by its followers throughout the Kanto region. The temple is committed to continuing to spread the teachings of Buddhism and Jodo Shinshu in Hiroo, striving to be a spiritual haven for people.
Ryokan Kurata served as the first head priest of Kurata-san Jogu-ji, and the temple is currently led by its fourth head priest, Hideki Kurata.
